A disability is any kind of impairment that prevents an individual from doing work that earns the individual an income. Apart from the case where a disability should result in death, and reported disability should have lasted or be expected to have lasted at least 12 months. The Social Security Department provides a standard list of impairments that are proven as disabilities by the department.Disabilities that are not documented in the standard list can still be eligible. Your lawyer would have to prove the eligibility of the impairment as similar or as serious as an impairment on the standard list.
